Bhagat Singh (भगत सिंह)

Who was Bhagat Singh?  Birth and Family Background: Bhagat Singh was born on September 28, 1907, in Banga, Punjab, British India. He belonged to a patriotic family involved in the freedom movement. His father, Kishan Singh, and uncle, Ajit Singh, were prominent freedom fighters. Early Inspiration: The Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919 profoundly affected him at the age of 12. Bhagat Singh resolved to fight against British oppression after visiting the massacre site. He was influenced by leaders like Kartar Singh Sarabha and Lala Lajpat Rai. Education and Ideology: Singh was a bright student and an avid reader of revolutionary literature. He was inspired by socialism, Marxism, and the Russian Revolution. Disillusioned by Gandhi's withdrawal of the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1922, he turned to revolutionary activities. History of Indian Republic Day Purna Swaraj Declaration : On January 26, 1930 , the Indian National Congress declared Purna Swaraj (complete independence) as its goal. This date was later chosen to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1950. Drafting of the Constitution : After India gained independence on August 15, 1947 , the process of drafting the Constitution began. The Constituent Assembly , chaired by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar , started drafting the Constitution on December 9, 1946 . The final draft was adopted on November 26, 1949 , and came into effect on January 26, 1950 . A Sovereign Republic : The adoption of the Constitution replaced the Government of India Act (1935) . India became a sovereign, democratic republic , with the President as the head of state. Who was Lokmanya Tilak?   Lokmanya Tilak, born in 1856, was a prominent Indian nationalist, freedom fighter, and social reformer. He played a key role in the Indian independence movement and was one of the first leaders to call for full self-rule for India. Tilak was known for his slogan "Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it." He was also a strong advocate for Hindu nationalism and the promotion of Indian culture. His writings, particularly in the newspapers *Kesari* and *Mahratta*, inspired many to join the struggle for independence. Tilak was arrested multiple times by the British for his activism, but his efforts laid the foundation for future leaders like Gandhi.
